Trout Offering A New Taste Of River Swat

Swat is known as the Switzerland of Pakistan. Swat valley is one of the most green valleys of Northern Pakistan. Main towns of the valley are Mingora and Saidu Sharif. Swat is a place for leisure lover, Hikers and archaeologist. In upper Swat, the river Swat tumbles through pine forests hemmed in by snow-capped mountains, while lower Swat valley is wide, the fields on either sides of the river are full of wheat and Lucerne, and the villages are prosperous and surrounded by fruit trees.

 

The people of swat are Muslims, Pathans, Kohistanis and Gujars. Some have very distinct features and claims to be desendants of Alexander the great. The main language of the area is Pashto. In Kalam region the people speak Torwali and Kalami languages. In Kalam the Ushu, and Utrot rivers join to form the river Swat. There is good fishing at Utrot. Kalam is the most beautiful part of Swat valley. At upper Swat there are very beautiful hills where one can walk for hours and enjoy the green hills and unspoiled nature.

Total length of river swat is 250 km from Kalam to river Kabul near Charsadda. River Swat is habitat for trout, waterfowls and other fish species. This river is the home of the most finest and tasty fish of Pakistan. It is a carnivore fish, average life span is 4 to 6 years, it’s size is 20 to 30 inches. Its weight is 3.6 kg (8lbs). The largest Rainbow trout once caught was 25.8 kg and was estimated to be 11 years. In river Swat two types of trout are found one is Rainbow trout steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss) it has various color combinations depending on the habitat. It is native to western North America and the other one is Brown trout (Salmo trout) native to Europe.

Swat’s trout fish is known to be of high quality and taste, which attract tourist in large droves.

Now people can go to swat enjoy this tasty fish, whether it is fried in traditional manner, grilled over a stoking fire as tikka, other than hotels tourist after catching trout can cook fish outside along the stream side or in a hilly place. Cooking like this has much more enjoyment and fun rather than eating the trout in hotels. At Malamjaba tourist can enjoy skiing and chairlift, while in Madyan people can go for shopping. Antique and modern shawls, traditional embroidery, tribal jewellery carved wood and antique or reproduced coins are sold along the main street.
