If you’re one of those people who never gave much thought about food, maybe you should start thinking about it because healthy food means not only fit body but also beautiful looking skin. Eat healthy and you’ll feel and look better. It is as simple as that.

Seafood

You’ve probably heard that fish is a good thing to eat, but did you know why? It contains zinc and omega-3 fatty acid. Consuming oysters and salmon specifically is highly recommended.

Zinc fights acne and helps in the reproduction of cells, meaning that your skin will be free of undesired flakiness and spots.

Omega-3 fatty acid, contained in fish, can reduce inflammation that causes dryness and skin-aging. It also provides good blood circulation, which is one of the essentials for a healthier skin.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits have plenty of vitamin C, which is the reason for their sour taste. When consuming them, what you’ll get as a bonus is a taut skin. This is why citrus fruits are often used as components in body creams. Oranges, lemons, grapefruits, acerola cherries or tomatoes (yes, they a fruit) are rich in vitamin C. This vitamin helps in neutralization of free radicals which are one of the causes of premature aging. Collagen, a main protein in the skin structure, is produced thanks to the contribution of vitamin C.

Red and Green Vegetables

Red to orange coloured vegetables contain great amount of beta-carotene. When you take it through the red/orange vegetables you eat, in your body it turns into vitamin A. This vitamin is a good antioxidant, and what it does is help against acne, wrinkles and other skin cell problems.

The green, leafy vegetables are also rich in vitamin A, which stimulates your skin to reproduce cells and to appear young and healthy.

Large amounts of vitamin A are not that good for you, so consider taking it through food and in moderation, instead of through supplements.

You can also take omega-3 fatty acids through nuts like almonds, walnuts and pistachios.

Combine vitamin E with selenium that you can provide from cottage cheese to heighten its antioxidant abilities.

Whole Grains

Consuming more whole (also called unprocessed) grain products will contribute to a moisturized skin. Antioxidant rutin is contained in whole grain buckwheat and helps against inflammations. The B-vitamin biotin in the wheat germs is a great ally in processing fats faster. The lack of biotin can make your skin look dry and flaky. Whole grains, unlike processed carbohydrates, have the property to make your complexion better. By using buckwheat, instead of refined flour, you may prevent diabetes and acne appearance.
